Here I am waiting, meditating,
Noticing my intrinsic colors:
Cotton candy skin, Earl Grey eyes, golden saffron hair,
Chocolate freckles, cool pink lemonade lips, licorish lashes,
Eggplant veins, eggshell teeth, and brown sugar soles of my feet.
A coloring bruise, flushed cheeks,
A darkening brow, shadowed eyes.
O colors! O constant companions!
Hope you are what I see you as,
Hope I am who you make me be -
Not bland sticky sweet white Wonderbread
But a living, breathing Woman of Color:
Bright-shining and worth a taste.

Not a poet but hoping to learn. Any promise here?

Welcome to allpoetry
Definite promise. This actually reminds me of that song 'Brown Skin' by India'arie. I love the colors and objects you equate with those colors when you look at it that way we are all people of color. That makes me smile. What a wonderfully equalizing poem. What spirit this brings.
I encourage you to keep writing to read and comment.
God Bless
Tammy
