One Day

One day changed forever
the lives of families
we've never known or seen.

Loss and pain they felt
that day, in an instant
life was taken away.

Fear and chaos tormented
the students, while worried
families heard the news.

Never in our American history
was such a tragedy recorded
that took so many lives.

Lives that were created
to laugh, love and live
each day to the fullest.

A nation mourns their loss
stunned and shattered, but will
go on to hold their memories close.

One day changed forever
the course of so many lives-
one day will bring hope to
the ones left behind.

Author notes

When I said "Never in our American history
was such a tragedy recorded
that took so many lives"
I am speaking of one shooter, one location. I know there have been terrorists, foreign and home grown. But ... well... I am hoping you all understand the meaning behind those words.

Please tell me what you think

wow. this was beautiful. i'm sad that you had to write it, for the reason of what the inspiration entails, but you did a wonderful job paying tribute to those who lost their lives, and also their families and the ones left behind.
