They held their positions against the Pakistani foe.
They fought with their last bullets,
Though they were not regular soldiers but students.
They fought for each bunker,
They were Bangladesh’s freedom fighter.
Those twenty two lives were lost,
Their names will be glorified with Chattak.
Author notes
Option 3
The battle of Chattak is an important battle of the Independence War of Bangladesh (1971). In October 1971 the 3rd East Bengal Regiment of Bangladesh Force attacked the Pakistani positions in Chattak area, Eastern Bangladesh. The Student Company defended the rear headquarters of the 3rd East Bengal Regiment. However at one point of the battle the Pakistani force attacked the rear headquarters. None of the student freedom fighters retreated. Instead of that they defended the position and twenty-two of them were killed.

This feels to me that it was written in another language then translated, and some of the power may have been lost, if so. But even if that is the case, your simple and plainspoken lines are strong and proud. The author notes are a good idea for those of us with little or no knowledge of the War of Independence of Bangladesh. I would only suggest some more imagery instead of factual lines. You have a good start with the 'magnificent twenty-two', but you do not embellish this image in the following lines. If their names are to be remembered and/or glorified, then perhaps mention one or two?...just a suggestion. Peace, Rhonda

This write is very affecting and vivid. I could really feel intense emotion behind these words, or perhaps it is my own emotions, invoked by the meaning of these words. This is a remarkable remembrance to those twenty-two that fought valiantly, and were not even soldiers at that. A part of history meant to be remembered, a part of history well captured in these poetic words. This poem is well done. Excellent write!
