The world envies the ease of a
well-lived life
and desires its end
in a dignified death.
Yet how rare it is to find
one within the other.
I did not know you well,
but I watched you fight
until the fight was done.
I watched you look outward
from your own pain,
showing us the beauty of
our Lord's heart.
You must have known despair
at the measuring of your days,
yet you saw the joy
of days spent in eternity.
The despair you shared
with only a few;
the joy was for all of us.
In the midst of your dying,
you taught us grace in living.
While we shed tears of loss,
you spent your smiles on us
like priceless bits of treasure.
I hope you knew we loved you.
You showed us how to live
and then taught us how to die.

Oh this is most captivating and grasping; very powerful and really tugs at the heart. This reduced me to deep waves of very vivid emotion, so powerful…There is such strength, wisdom and honor to the person lost, pulsing through this piece…a very powerful, grasping person…dignity in death, and honor in living, both, acquired…so rare, so beautiful, so amazing, and so sorrowful to have lost such an amazing individual. A very strong spirit to have lived so well and wonderfully, and then to have, “you spent your smiles on us/like priceless bits of treasure”…to still be able to share joy and mirth with loved ones in the time of dying…such fortitude and love. Very, very emotional write…those last two lines were absolutely superb and most affecting. Incredible, well done!!!!!
