For the Betrayal

Dante’s ninth and innermost level of hell was made of ice.
It held traitors, betrayers, backstabbers.
The people within its icy walls were numb to their nerves.
They had no nerves.  They had nothing but gnawing and gnashing.
They deserved to be there.
For what person kisses a friend, tells them they care that they love them
That they would serve them with all their heart…only to turn around
Stab them, make mockery of them, laugh at them?
A Judas, a devil, a demonized saint.  Fallen angels.  Great betrayers.
Who forgives a friend seven times seven times seven and gives up
Their heart and their soul?  Who sticks up for a person only to be
Handed some blended, bloody, torn heart that was once yours?
Forgiveness…the seemingly weak are trampled by its usage;
While those who betrayed get all they ever wanted in this world.
But justice is theirs to be had.  Icy Hell.  The Ninth level.
May it be yours.  Your same self possessed soul on this earth
Will be your same self possessed soul when you die.
You’re icy while here—you’ll be icy there.
Glazed over as you are now with your own pride.

Author notes

Dedicated to a friend I thought I had. We used to bond over The Inferno, now we shall part with it. The slander to get a laugh after all I have done on your behalf is the act of a betrayer. I now know my place. Niceness is definitely not my receiving end of grace.

Please tell me what you think

Its well written. But who are you to judge which souls may be heaven bound and hell bound. Rather arrogant. I being a lover of the inferno had to read this despite its nonpareil distate I recieve when reading something about someone i know so well. Sweet imagery and even better emotion in this as always you have such passion in your writing.

well you and i both know the person and we both know i would never wish that on them and how much i truly truly love them and always will. however, take into account that this poem was written the day after the said occurence. the emotion will be evidently apparent. the imagery is sheerly inferno based as you will note with your knowledge of it. it's just the best image i had for an act of betrayal and both of us know that's the 9th level. am i past that anger? yeah. but is this poem good? it's allright for what it is i think. i don't apologise for it. thanks for reading it tho and even commenting, despite the personal nature it holds for both of us. As for my judgment? you're right i have none, but i still point out that this is a poem, not a judgment. Arrogant? You should consider arrogance when you consider what this person does to me to get their way, to have a laugh at my expense, to do a lot of things to a person they say they loved. Arrogance goes both ways.

This one went right through me. I think I can really relate to this..

"For what person kisses a friend, tells them they care that they love them
That they would serve them with all their heart…only to turn around
Stab them, make mockery of them, laugh at them?"
I asked myself the same question, but I could never give voice to them.

Everything here.. the ninth depth of hell, cold and ice and pride. It's love and life and hate.

This one is really awesome, and I think I'll say it's special to me, because of the power you have with words, and the way you say them.

    Angry and cold..
