To me?
Poetry is
Telling a story
It reminds us of history
As Anzac by Oliver Hogue
It tells of owns life
A Love by Pablo Neruda
It is a ways to tell other of grief
Like Tonight I Can Write The Saddest Lines
It is a way to leave messages
Like Mother To Son
Or to talk about one self
As in Mirror
Poetry is a way
To tell the world something
It is a story
Of life
It is a
Message from the past
Poetry is every thing
Poetry is more then words on paper
Poetry is Poetry
What more needs to be said

You have clearly attempted to comply with the spirit of the competition with your description of what poetry is and what others have done with their poetry.
It may not address precisely the question of what is the point of poetry but it does try.
