a marble saint with a mysterious smile,
student and teacher, friend and equal,
learning more peace in every new trial.
She is eternal conflict pacified in wisdom,
the storm of the ages brought under rein.
In her own life she has learned compassion
and patience to listen to others' pain.
Awareness brightens her lucid blue eyes,
childlike innocence plays on her face.
May she always receive the love that she gives!
May the world treat her with smiles and grace.

Thank you Bel, it was a delight for me to try to capture what Marion means to me in a poem, and it was redoubled to have her response to it. This is a lovely contest, happy judging!

BTW, why was Maa speaking in the third person in her comment? I'd ask her but I'm too scared.

Sorry, Yemassee always asks such stupid questions.
-
-
Perhaps maa is to Marion as Yemassee is to Mayne, but then again, maybe not.

What a coincidence! I was a fashion model too!
She sounds amazing...I don't know her very well, but she was pleasant and tolerated me the one time she replied to some asinine comment I made somewhere or other.
Childlike innocence...wow another coincidence.........
lucid blue eyes...it's uncanny! Ok, mine are brown, but they're as lucid as a smoky pane of glass!
Very nice of you to write it Margaret, I'm sure Maa appreciates it.

what a beautiful tribute to Maa, this is so full of such lovely, caring wisdom and grace, defining the beauty of someone special. Your heart, Margaret gives forth here to give us her own heart, spirit and essence. What a gift of a poem. It is just an exquisitely written and loving piece!

sigh ...
what a graceful and elegant tribute, dear margaret ... thank you so much ...
I love the way you describe maa here, it makes her look so beautiful ... like when I was working as a fashion model, and I arrived with dark circles under my eyes and bad mood at a photo-shoot or fashion-show, and all those angels would take care of my hair, massage me, console me from my eternal heart-ache, cover up the ugly flaws with make-up and kindness ... and then, when I got dressed in precious gowns, and everybody looked at my appearance with awe and admiration, I was able to feel a tiny little bit of happiness for a little while ... not love for myself yet, but a bit of consolation ... until the show was over and I was as lonely as before ... all that had counted was my body, my image, the surface of my being, but not my soul ...
today, you and all those angelic poets who offer me kindness, are diving inside my soul and bring up pearls that I haven't even discovered myself yet ...
I understand that even my own mother has not found access to my soul in fourty years, although I am an open book in many ways ... but maybe she just hasn't learned the language in which the book is written ...
that's okay ...
I guess ...
my spiritual soul-family is my real family, after all ...

I feel that way too
There is a lovely English proverb, "Birds of a feather flock together," which means that people are similar to their friends. I find it very encouraging that such beautiful people love me, because that means that they see a loveable person like themselves, whether I can or not.
We are like peas in a pod, dear Marion, like two drops of water.
