My comrade, wounded in battle
close to defeat at the hands of the enemy.
Do you raise your sword in defense?
Or do you lay and accept your loss?
This is my vow, it is my solem oath
and my sacred promise: that I will defend you.
I will raise my sword when you lack the strength to do so.
I will sheild you from the fierness blows
If I can.
But I can't do it alone friend.
My sword acts as a delay
my shield, but an inspiration.
They are ultimatly powerless
if you will not fight for yourself.
Let me reach for your hand
and pull you to your feet.
Don't push aside my blade
Let my strength be your strength
as yours is mine
Let my will be your will
Let my hope be your hope.
and rise above your foe
I will stand beside you.

Author notes
I thought of the basic idea for this poem when I had a friend who confronted me with her thoughts about suicide. I felt as if I had to help her fight this battle and that the weight of her trouble lay on my shoulders until my back ached.
It was frustrating and difficult and I tried to show that in this poem, using the metephor of trying to defend a wounded ally in battle.

This is profoundly beautiful. A sentiment of one recognizing the sudden need by another to help them in time of need. It can be addressed just this same way for someone who has lost a child, relative, friend to suicide. From that point of view this poem is reaching out to comfort the person grieving over such terrible loss. I like this. Good luck. Thank you for the comforting thoughts expressed within this write. My cousin is at peace now.Again, Thanks.
