Jesus is brought before the High Priests
And a soldier strikes Our Lord for staying silent
And the guards spit on the Holy Son of God!
In the morning, our battered and bruised Jesus
Goes before Pontius Pilate and that weak man,
Bending to the blood-hungry Jewish crowd,
Condemns our Lord to scourging and crucifixion!
The naked Christ is tied and lashed so cruelly:
Thirty-nine vicious strokes from the flagellum!
Oh what agony our dear Lord suffered for us,
His skin hanging off his back in tatters!
Jesus, only half conscious with the pain,
Slumps to the ground covered in His Own Sacred Blood
And the Roman soldiers cruelly mock him
For falsely claiming to be the king of the Jews!
A crown of thorns is Jesus' next tribulation,
Pressed into his sore-wounded bloodied scalp!
The soldiers beat him and without any human mercy
Strap the heavy cross to his flayed bleeding back!
Down the Via Dolorosa, the way of sorrow, they go;
Jesus Christ our Lord and two sinful thieves
All condemned to the ghastly agony of the cross
And our Lord stumbles and falls in the dust!
At last the Hellish hill of Golgotha is reached
And our Lord is stripped and the nails of agony
Hammered into his wrists and the mocking slogan
"Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews" is attached!
Next our dear Lord's feet are nailed to the cross
And excruciating pain courses through our Savior
How He must have suffered for all mankind's sins
That terrible, terrible day so long ago!
Despite the untold agony He utters the Seven Last Words
Begging His father to forgive the Roman soldiers,
Promising a penitent thief that he shall share Paradise,
Recognising mother Mary and his beloved John!
"My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" He weeps,
And, as his poor body dehydrates, he cries out for water
But cheap vinegary wine is all he gets from the Romans,
Who show Our Lord no mercy in his untold sufferings!
And sixth word he cries, "It is finished", but it is not yet so
For He still had one desperate cry to His Father:
To commend his dying Spirit to Almighty God
And then the legionnaire speared his Holy Heart!
Now we can see the depths of evil unveiled before us
As the Jews and Romans tried to destroy the Son of God,
But He rose again on the Third Day for us all
And how can we not fall down on our knees in thanks?

I am speechless as of what to say
you penned this for my heart, i must say!
Though anger and rage felt it was but for a moment
it was then I remembered that God's Son's love
was not only shown but proven!
My heart weeps every time I
reminscne on this but my soul...
My soul longs to taste eternal bliss!
The fact that Chrisst died for me
is sometimes more than I can bare
that's why every day, I have to fall on
my face in prayer!
You've reminded me
of the greatest gift
gave long ago and the pain my
Jesus went through, to prove
He loved me so!
Thank you so much
you don't know how much
this means to me.
I shall bookmark this and
every now and then come back to
remember and reminsce!

Well I clicked on it, so I guess I should make a comment. I totally do not believe in Christianity. In my opinion it is just another religion made up by Man. I read your poem, but it had no effect on my emotions other than you did a very good job writing this poem, but the meaning behind it is only belief, which is fine. To each their own. I will not bash you for your beliefs. But I honestly believed that you wrote this poem very well.

Heartfelt account of what our Lord suffered for our sake. Reveals how abhorrent our sin is, yet how merciful God is. Justice and mercy are one. Our salvation is won.
One suggestion: the exclamation points detract from this piece. The words are powerful enough without them.

What's the BIG deal?
He was born again wasn't He? -

So the story goes. Cough. Cough.

hey umm jesus didnt cry out for water. when the romans offered the wine it was to dull the pain. but the sacrafice had to be pure to wash away the sins of the world so Jesus denied the wine because he couldnt be drunk with wine. Jesus had to take our full punishment. the pain that he felt couldnt be dulled. This is a very importaint part of scripture. The fact that Jesus denied the wine on the cross shows us how much he loved us.

-
No, you are wrong. He did not like the vinegary wine; He said He was thirsty and wanted water. How would not drinking rubbishy vinegar show love?
-
-
Earlier argument:
You both are right. Before He was nailed to the croos, Jesus was offered wine mixed with myrrh (I think) to numb the pain. Later on, in at least one of the gospel accounts, Jesus exclaims: "I thirst".
Then he is offered (gall?) on a sponge attached to a stick, which he takes.
This was meant to be this way. You and I nailed him to that cross because of our sin. He hung there for you and me. The people there at that time share no more of the guilt or grace than we do.

You wrote this well, The blood is on the page for all to see, I cant help to think what was wrong with them that had done this? They had to be blind in the deepest way and deaf as a concreat block. Jesus hurt noone..... The anger lives within me, Jesus forgives.

As deaf as a concreat block is a great simile!
