Love's Travels

Love once frolicked upon our shore,
They said Love was to be forevermore,
When Mockingbirds came, sailing on the wind,
And sadly, Love flew away with them.

Though Love was seemingly not meant to be,
The memory of Love had captured me,
And like a butterfly with wings too wet,
There was no escaping Love’s powerful net.

I called throughout this mighty land,
For Love to return, to forever stand,
But Love sailed further o’er the sea,
Was it only in dreams, Love meant to be?

Love left us vulnerable when it flew way,
And we were without, that fateful day,
Memories of Love kept returning to me,
Echoed reminders of what used to be.

Now everywhere, humans are suffering at home,
Anywhere you look, children are left orphans to roam,
Yet elsewhere, people are mutilated before grown,
And somewhere, babies are killed when they're born.

Yet in my heart, Love’s memory dwells,
As ages pass, the feeling swells,
I took to task the urgent need,
To share Love’s memory, my heart agreed.

It is the children, that Love must feed,
And from our hearts with swiftest speed,
For sad the day we are dead and gone,
With no one to sing our hearts’ Love song

I beg you, listen to the sound,
Children lacking Love, abound,
As misery clouds the forlorn sky,
Their Loveless hearts can only cry.

Love disappeared with tides that flow,
While children’s hearts with hardness grow,
And to their children they pass the wrath,
With nothing but heartache, to light their path.

Despair washes over this rocky shore,
Love is lost to them forevermore,
Children of sorrow can only mourn,
That unto this world they were ever born.

It is not only children, Love needs to grace,
It is also adults, whose hearts can replace
All that is evil, which Love can erase,
Putting smiles again on everyone’s face.

Love is forever and a day,
Its presence in my heart will stay,
This poem I write for all to read,
To share Love’s presence, my heart agreed.

Meanwhile, Love traveled far and wide,
Attempting to turn the evil tide,
Love continued its work faithfully,
While spreading its Love cheerfully,

Love was granted permission to go,
Around the world, its people to know,
Wherever Love went, misery was there,
And Love bowed its head and said a prayer.

Sailing on, Love asked for more time to see,
All of the people, to whom Love could be,
Distributed, while on Love’s daily rounds,
Within our world of sights and sounds.

Love lifted its voice and took up its pen,
Reminding the people, they can begin
To live with happiness if they believe,
That love is there for all to receive.

So much Love was needed, wherever Love went,
That soon Love’s heart and soul were spent,
And Love’s heart was broken, it was clear to me,
Yet Love continued its travels from sea to sea.

And Love never once stopped to rest,
Because Love always does its very best,
Love gained momentum, spreading about,
Never allowing its light to go out.

That Love’s message was spread is evidenced by
New laws to protect people, yet in the blink of an eye,
Whenever Love chanced to look away,
The law was broken by someone that day.

Another child damaged, another person killed,
More babies stolen, more human blood spilled.
Love asked for helpers and soon they began
Trying to work out a difficult plan.

They are still working at it diligently,
Yet they need the help of you and me.
For Love’s triumphant plan to succeed,
We must all embrace Love, and then proceed.

It is the world’s habits that are hardest won,
Yet our work will be worth it when we are done,
For everywhere, people will begin to believe
That Love exists for hearts to receive.

Now the time has come to lend a hand,
Helping to spread more Love over this land.
We will all benefit from this mighty task;
To receive Love's blessing, we only need to ask.

There will come a day reigning Love and Peace,
The pain, sorrow, and hunger will cease.
All people will once again smile in the sun;
Love will shine always, for Love will have won.

There is nobody wise enough
To find out all that is in it,

Lovely words about loving each other

How true your words, as adults should show love as children and the world would be a better place. The world is so short of love and caring for one another.

    Love-ly ...

Your poem has done a good job of sharing your feelings about the subject and all who stand aside know that every word spoken shares a lot of truth. "If it's to be it must start with me!" Love-ly and good luck in the contest! joy

Love is a letter word so vague in meaning and understanding. We understand what it means, but it more of a concept based on emotions! Truely exceptional poem you chose to write about. ~Sie, good luck in yoru contest...

Nice rhythm to this piece. You spoke of the sorrow of the lack of love and you expressed yourself beautifully. Good job. Write on, poet.
