A Vesuvius Stomach

Missing image
Oh, to dust our dream in desire driven,

our ancient arms of breath,
discovered,
for there was laughter to last forever
inside this earthen bed of thunder.

Fossil fragments
flame to fondle
hill to grow
when fever flies
in Lava's lip

of what it is to hold you always,

as sacred wash of arms embracing
close in heart to kindred nature,

for we are every miracle enchanted
to lie in death,

as resurrected shadow
sent in warning:

that nothing real is ever lost
in world of souls invading sanctuary,

for all we had to do to live

was lay together
inside the storm
of molten earth,

exposing hunger consuming everything,
we thought we treasured
in swallowed world
of temporal measure,

to find that in a Vesuvius stomach,

was peace to blossom
in Sleep’s imagination.

A beautiful poem, dear poet. I really like your references and comparisons between love and volcano, especiall your lines:
"to find that in a Vesuvius stomach,// was peace to blossom/ in Sleep’s imagination."
    Wonderful job!

This is the most beautiful poem I've read to this
picture so far, there have been many contests with this
picture in it, but I have to say, this poem complements it best, I love the mention of lava...swallowed by a volcano, excellent thought there.

    Sigh, beautiful!
