Eating candy and drinking soda,
my dear mother told me not to do.
"Unless you brush your teeth, honey,
it's a trip to the dentist for you."
So I ignored her advice,
and received a painful cavity.
But the words, "I told you so"
were not said to me.
And I feared the boogie monster,
but my cheek she only kissed,
and told me, "Now, honey,
such a thing does not exist!"
I didn't believe her in the least.
but every morning I woke in good health.
She never once said, "I told you, dear,
nothing under your bed does dwell."
And she told me boys were trouble,
from a very, very young age.
I guess I should have listened,
those words were all too sage.
And I've had a broken heart,
and over a boy I've cried.
But she never said, "I told you so."
She didn't tamper with my pride.
She's seen how my best friend treats me.
She's told me, "Josh is a jerk and fool!"
He's used me and left me for dead,
but I used to think he was just so cool.
But once he has trampled me,
and I ended it there and then.
Mom never said, "I told you so.
That's what you get from men!"
She's always impressed upon me
that I should excell in education.
She's told me, "You're smart,
and college will get you far in this nation!"
And yeah, I dropped out,
but I plan to go to college one day.
And it'll be for me and to make her proud,
not because of what she might say!
Author notes
My mom's never said, "I told you so." Well, not to my memory at least. =) I'm holding a contest for those who love their mother and aren't afraid to admit it and I guess some of the great works submitted have inspired this.
GIve me your opinions!

Awwww, this is wonderful, Kipp. I like the way you wrote this and arranged the rhymes. Very well done. I like the theme you choose.
(P.S. So you and Josh aren't friends anymore?)
