I snap green beans
And hear children laughing, and dogs barking
On a distant street close by
There is the noise of a eighteen wheeler changing gears
I spy a small blackbird that is patrolling a brick wall
And a mother oriole feeds worms
To a nest of her babies well hidden
In a giant magnolia tree~
Barefoot children play on the lawn and make hollyhock dolls
And scatter gravel on a parking lot
I watch a ladybug
Explore a blade of grass
I smell someone's fresh-cut lawn~
As it starts to get dark I go visit
And softly gossip
Over cookies and iced-tea
Small town twilight
Recalling summer memories~

A wonderful poem that is filled with loving memories.

This is so beautifully reminiscent, Sis. It reminds me so much of being at my grandparents in Gold Hill, Oregon. They had a big front porch, too and we'd spend a lot of time there, talking, relaxing and yes, even snapping green beans from their garden.
A wonderful poem and I wish you best of luck in the contest

This makes me feel at home. It seems like what most people around there do. Although, what I do may be a little different in the summer You have such a pretty poem. Either way, I can relate. Those are such beautiful things that you have written...it brings back all the memories of summer and what it's like. I especially like the imagery, it is perfectly done. Describing things in poems you must do wonderfully. I enjoyed reading this poem...there's something about it. You did awesome!
Good luck,

This beautifully reminesct poem reminds me of my summers so long ago, growing up in the country. I'd love to go back to those days of a simpler life.
A very lovely poem, Sis
It really does remind me of years gone by. We even had a long porch like in your picture and many times I sat with my grandmother, sometimes helping string beans or churn butter.
Your imagery here is vivid, your verbiage a pleasure to read. Wonderful, I love it
In the third line did you mean to write 'And' instead of 'An'
I wish you the best in the contest
love and
Dee
