Shooting Star

Last night
we were sitting on the wall
smoking cigarettes
and staring at the stars.
It was a clear night in town,
very bright.
We looked up and saw millions of silver specks
scattered sporatically in the twilight.
I recognized a few constellations
and started looking for the moon
when something caught my eye.

I took another drag of my cigarette.

"What was that? Did you see it?"
He bent down so that his green eyes
were looking directly into my brown ones.
"What did it look like?"
To me it looked like a space shuttle
or a station or something like Sputnik.
But I thought that they were all gone now,
out of the sky.
Eager to learn, I told him what I saw.
He knows so much more about the stars than I do.
He said to me, "That's a shooting star.
Make a wish."

I closed my eyes and made my wish.
I felt my wish was wasted, since it was so obvious.
Then I readjusted his jacket,
which he loaned me to keep me warm,
and took another drag
as if to tell him that I had made my wish.

"What did you wish for?" he asked me.
I coyly said that I could not tell him
because then it would not come true.
I didn't dare tell him the real reason
I wouldn't share my wish.
He accepted my lie with a generous smile,
one that started on his mouth
and streteched up to his eyes.

Our cigarettes were out.

"C'mon!" he said
urging me inside with him.
While we did nothing out of the ordinary that night
since I sat and watched him play video games
occationally giving him the chance to teach me something,
I felt a small piece of the shooting star magic
working that night
as I rested my head on his thigh
and he occationally brushed my head with his hand.

I adjusted the chair with my blanket and pillow,
getting ready to spend the night.
As he shut off the television
and I said goodnight
I turned to the window
and looked out at the stary night
one more time
before closing my eyes
and seeing my wish come true.

Please tell me what you think

A good write. It does make me wonder what the wish was. Was it for him to love the girl? I wasn't sure since it already seemed that he did. None the less, it was very well written thanks for sharing.
