( see Internet for details )

In Iraq (              ) Americans were killed today. .
Check the press and fill in the blank . .
In Palestine there were many avoidable fatalities .

As brainwashed kids . . fought against a tank !

There were (         ) innocent people
Slaughtered in Somalia today . .
Get the figures from the BBC or CNN . .
The numbers are regularly reported by the way

Starvation is getting more prevalent . .
About (         ) million die each week
And AIDS is at epidemic proportions . .
Mass graves are causing villages to reek

There are (         ) prisoners in Guantanamo
Still waiting to go on trial . .
There are (           ) waiting for hospital beds
And they’ll be kept waiting of quite a while

Sadly the blanks are becoming more prevalent
And they will grow whilst very few people care
And I am told there are (         ) millionaires . .
As more of us . . inescapably buy their wares

I’m sure today will be another blank day . .
With values and numbers expanding by the hour
And the stock market will go through the roof
Even whilst I am in the shower . .

It’s so hard to crystallize any statistics . .
Be it wars, accidents or even money in your bank
It’s far better that you write in pencil . .
Then you can modify (          ) the blank

the cricket loving world will fill in the score of the latest match in the world cup... that is the state of apathy in our world. i agree with nighthope that good things also happen but then how many lives are saved each day compared with lives lost and so unnecessarily too and all because of some greedy pig minded people who fill the world ears and minds with their lies and who force their way onto all other countries. Bad things are happening because good people are not standing up and shouting loud enough. Good write Albert.

Sighhh...I understand where this is coming from, Albert...but why do we never hear any of the good news??? It happens daily, too. Miracles. Sacrifices. Kindnesses. People doing the right thing simply because it IS the right thing, not for the reward or recognition. This is why I don't watch the news regularly anymore. Too depressing. A recitation of horrors. Yes, survival is brutal. Life, however, remains beautiful. Wanda

      Sometimes . . but . .

      Hi Wanda,
Yes . . I sometimes show my age by writing about butterflies and blossom, and the subtle shads of autumn . . but to enter the world of the media, of the young, and even AllPoetry . . you must rub shoulders with terminators, car chases single parent families, depression and attempted suicide . . .
There is no news in kind or nice – it just doesn’t sell . .

      Albert.

I'd buy it. So would others. Flutterbyes don't have anything to do with your age, Albert...only with your impeccable taste.
