"fire lily:  flower of the flame"

by Nicolette van der Walt

http://www.lulu.com/content/1527875

Published by Magdalena & Co.
Copyright 2007 ©  Nicolette van der Walt

(149 pages) Paperback:  $16.95
ISBN 978-0-6151-8143-1
All Rights Reserved

An excerpt from the Introduction written by Zayra Yves:
San Francisco, California 2007

“In this passionate collection of poetry Nicolette van der Walt shares with her readers the intimacy of her very marrow.  Nicolette is a woman of many gifts and strengths but of all those wonders, what stands out most is her grace.  She is truly as graceful as a flower, as sensuous as a dancer and as passionate as the fire; she is what she writes.  The poet and the poem are one as they dance together on the page from the seed of what is intensely personal and private to the core of all humanity burning with it the powerful yearning for union with the beloved.  The rapture of her poetry will light a candle of beauty in your soul and open your heart to burn beyond the flame.” – Zayra Yves

The title, fire lily, refers to a wildflower, native to South Africa, which only blooms after a fire and rises from the soil  in a dance of red bells – proof, that love, and only love, can change a landscape of ashes into a garden.

Back cover reviews are by Wanda Brayton (Night Hope), Marc Creamore, Brian Douthit and Joe Faybish (mimiagatha) – all of them accomplished and published poets (see author’s notes).  A big thank you Zayra, Wanda, Marc, Joe, & Brian for sharing their talent and their hearts with me, and to every one of you here who has been so supportive of me and my poetry through the years! And of course, also to the one: the fire, the flame.

"Ordinary Substance" is a journey through relationships and spiritualism with a focus on Taoist and Buddhist perceptions as life presents itself through ordinary every day experiences. This book is a search through the imprints of the psyche at various levels of conditioning to simply be with it as it is; to fully accept ourselves as we are reflected in the mirror of words. Zayra's poetry invites the reader to be present within themselves, as much as with her. She guides you on an authentic spiritual journey via the poetic arts through the yin and yang of words as demonstrated through disillusionment, emptiness, awe, then fullness, sweetness and love. Plus there is a wonderful introduction by Bill Harris, the founder of the Centerpointe Research Institute and one of the teachers featured in The Secret.

Our very own Barbara

Barbara Degenstein

Barbara Degenstein writes about ordinary people, usually set in far off worlds, in the distant future. She tends to favor strong female leads, with a ‘been there, done that, next crisis, please’ attitude, facing twenty-first century problems with a futuristic twist. When asked about her writing, Barbara says: "I guess the best way to describe my writing would be a cross between science fiction and science fluff…and that’s a good thing. I ‘like’ science fluff. It’s something that anyone can read, and not have to have a background in either science knowledge, or have an attitude of ‘that could never happen because…’" To her, reading a story that is not bogged down with technical information is a pure pleasure. Barbara has been writing for over twenty years, starting in high school, and continuing throughout the years. She has many stories that are in her mind…the only problem is putting fingers to keys and typing them out. Barbara has lived, traveled and worked all across Canada, and uses those adventures as a basis for story lines and situations. Now living on Canada’s East Coast with her two children, her time is divided between amusing them, and trying to find time to finish a third novel.

Marc Creamore

NOTES FROM THE ABANDONED ORCHARD OF THE MOON

"Marc Creamore sees the city/planet/universe through the wise eyes of an innocent child.  He shifts the vagaries of modern existence through a mind that is open to unfortunate reality, yet able to enliven the seemingly barren future with shades of hope.  Eastern philosophy seems to enwrap his visage, his voice, with the calm of an elder and the wonder of a child."

- from the Forward by Rob Ganson,

author of Float Like A Butterfly, Sing Like A Tree

"Marc Creamore's truth becomes your own the moment you read his words and feel his beauty, his depth of observation, his magnitude of wonder, his painful raging at the damage Mankind has done to this world and to the people that breathe upon its shores.  His poetry will enlighten you, educate you, enthrall you with its memorable and majestic messages..."

- Wanda Lea Brayton,

author of Swanee Sighs

Blurbs for Glass Skin - Janet Richards

This collection provides a carefully crafted balance between life experience and literature.
Janet Richards gives us the pulse of days and seasons, the give and take of intimacy, and the bond of mother and child. These poems recognize and celebrate the subtle, organic signals of our daily lives.

R.D. Roy, Panegyric Press

"Dragonfly nymphs stir in ever-warming water …"
Janet's observations glean, as though perched on top a tripod draped in a velvet cloak.

Jennifer Londry

Janet's poetry is quietly mesmerizing. You are lured in by her descriptions of the every day, and stay for the often bittersweet tang at the end. At once universal and extremely personal, they swirl
around in your mind long after the first reading is over.

Jennifer May,
Belleville Branch, Ontario Poetry Society

Janet Richards' book is a journey of imagery connected to the Bay of Quinte region; it also opens the reader's eyes to all of life's daily adventures. The sound of the poet's voice is often in a language that surprises. Glass Skin $B(! (B a great addition to the Quinte literary landscape. Enjoy.

With each turn of the page you will see just how truly unique and talented she is as she comes to life one poem at a time. These are her words, her tales, her stories, her...Manifestation.
