Sounds Like A Plan

How about some lunch on Saturday
We’ll meet at the gas station
near the intersection and go from there.
Sounds like a plan, we’ll finally meet,
“And then one day, I’ll cross the river”

Sitting alone watching the April snow fall.
Each swipe of the wiper blade clears my vision
then dashes my hopes as you don’t appear.
My car grows cold and silent like a tomb,
“I’ll fight life’s final war with pain”

Minutes tick slowly by, so I try calling you
from the pay phone while the wind gusts
rip at me and the cold snow slaps my face.
I’ll close my eyes, you’ll be here when they open,
“And as death gives way to victory”

Still no answer, and my desires and hopes
slowly die out like the embers of a fading fire.
I climb back into my car and start back
that long grey heartless road again,
“Because He lives, I can face tomorrow”.

The sun is patiently breaking through
the morning clouds, and I find myself
in church with people who don’t really
know me, but seem to be my friends,
“Because He lives all fear is gone”.

And as each hymn is sung, a hope
in me sparks anew, that there will
be a message from you flashing there
on my computer screen when I get home,
“Life is worth the living, just because He lives”.
