Spill my heart
in drops of ink
that whisper,
sing, and cry.
Create in me
a new woman
whose only refuge
tells the tale.
Give my lungs
new breath that I
might inhale poetry,
exhale prose.
Shatter me against
Homer, Yeats,
Shelley and Wordsworth;
break my heart again.
Blame my words
for throwing pottery,
weaving tapestries,
filming history.
Share my love
with those broken few
whose poet's hearts
reminisce with mine.
Trace my poem
with wisp-like pens
across the page
of history...
And never let me
live again
til my words
rush, splash, swirl...
Til my words
run to the sea,
and my heart slows,
drowns in them.
Yes, never let me
live again
til my heart stops,
til the end.
Author notes
I couldn't think of a good title for this poem, so that's the title you get. I apologize for that, but I really liked the theme of this contest, so I suppose it works. I would have liked a bit more inspiration on the part of my muse, but alas, we don't always get what we want. Well, there is my entry... I hope it fits the contest!
