I have searched for love high and low,
in the moon's paleness and the sun's glow.
In the heart of stars I have looked for it,
and have I found love--not a bit!
I have sought it in a fleeting smile,
a loving glance, a certain style.
My quest has taken me away
from other pleasures--I obey
the subtle promptings of the heart,
the yearning which will never part.
This longing will not let me be
till I have gained the company
of one who'll share a love so deep
that it would make an angel weep.
"Thinking of love," I hear Yeats say,
"till the stars (above) had run away."
The poet warns against obsession,
and here I must make full confession.
Perhaps the poet's got it right,
and love, for me, is not in sight.
But I'll continue with my mission,
with, or without, the poet's permission!
Author notes
"O love is the crooked thing,
There is nobody wise enough
To find out all that is in it,
For he would be thinking of love
Till the stars had run away."...Yeats.

This is wonderful! One of your best, and you caught the flavor Yeats was offering. However, someone as fine as you must have a love - There was an emptiness to the poem, a longing and yearning - it is just excellent!
