The Book of Twelve 11 - the one who followed

sometimes i just don’t understand
this world you desperately try to save
they think you came to destroy the old ways
but how could they be so wrong?

we were all
at one time
law-abiding jews
we clung to the torah, as you taught us too
many of us still do
and yet they find it hard to believe us
and condemn us for our blasphemy
is it any wonder?

i look around and see the pyramids
the sphinx
these epic structures of sand and stone
and realize what a waste it is
how can these people not see?
how can they not believe?
these constructions of their own hands have not brought them peace
nor will they ever in this changing world of pain

have i not followed the torah?
do i not hold to it truly with all my heart?
if i thought for one second that i would blaspheme this holy book
i would let you take me
i would let you crucify me
but it seems to me that there is nothing to be said
so i submit willfully to your hand
kenosis
and i let you bind my hands
dislocate my shoulders
and nail me to a tree

like stephen before me, i can only offer one prayer
forgive them

Author notes

art by el greco

this one kind of focuses more on the fact that many believe that james alphaeus (often confused with james the less and james the just) was an extremely law abiding jew, but was still sentenced to crucifixion for blasphemy. he ended his days in egypt, so the stories go, for it was there that he was ministering.

of james alphaeus.

kenosis means "to empty yourself; to willfully submit". its from one of paul's letters. i think romans? but yeah.

Oh kewl.. Thank you.. Romans is a close relative to Greek.. But then again I don't know much about that other then what I read in the Odyesse and the Illiad.. (My bibles) But anyway..

Question - Have you seen the musical Joseph and the Magical Technicolored Dreamcoat??

yup, its in the book of romans i believe. don't know the exact verse (although i should...we had to memorize that verse in bible 100). but yeah, its in there.

as for joseph, yes! i love that music. i would absolutely love to play the narrator in it someday. or maybe potiphar's wife, because she's badass wit her boobies hanging out and it cracks me up. if i was male i'd probably want to be pharaoh, but um...not male. ^_^ shucks.
