another day afraid of you
another day alone
i lift my head to no one's view
no one my face can look upon
i walk to the market by myself
i have no more my friends
i have no more family
they had to stop coming
they had to stop calling
all because of him
i get letters from my family
across the sea
they never reach my hands
once when he was not home
i looked in the mail box
i watch for the mail man
when he had gone away
to mail box i went
stole all and i ran
for this i got a
broken arm
a broken jaw
a fractured rib
and lost three teeth
but it was worth it all
my mother's words to read
from miles away in my home land

I wrote this for a contest, but I also wrote this because I have known some arranged weddings where the brides have been treated almost this way...... I was very sad...

What a sad poem, what one has to endure in their life just to read words from their mother. How awful it would be not to hear from your family, as if they were erased from the face of the earth. How tragic a situation some women have to live through. Sentiments well expressed, easy to read and understand. Think you mean and lost three teeth - would sound better.

I can see what your talking about because I know lots of people who had arranged marriges [well my mum knows them and I met them] and they are treated very very badly by their husbands, it is trully awful! your poem is very sad, and shows how much pain these arranged marriges cause. well written!
