Life is not all rainbows and dreams
And wishes for things to be.
It is not all smiles and fluffy kittens running and playing down by the old mill stream.
Life was never promised to be that way.
But God did promise to walk
Beside me and you every day
And try and guide us toward
A cloudless blue sky
Filled with rainbows that can be seen farther than the eye.
Rainbows and dreams
And wishes for things to be.
We have all had them
Tucked neatly into our lives.
All the wonderful scenes of butterflies
Winging their flight through a rainbow sky.
Colorful hues of red, orange and yellow;
Of green, blue and purple splashed across the clear sky
As if it were done by an unseen hand filled with care
And an artist's paint brush
With loving flair.
Life is not the perfect world we envision of children laughing and dancing
In the summer sun.
While running after fluffy kittens and puppy dog tails
And riding life on an old fashioned carousel.
Life is not all rainbows and dreams
And wishes for things to be.
Some days have their ups and downs
And some days it rains all night long.
Some days are filled with woe and fear
And have very little cheer.
Some days we feel like we don't live at all.
But God is there to pick us up
When we fall.
He lifts us up and dusts us off
And helps us through whatever befalls us;
Guiding our lives and guarding our hearts
To a new day's dawn;
To start life anew
With rainbows and dreams
And wishes for things to be
That within our hearts
May come true!
Author notes
This is a contest right up my alley... since I am both an artist of pencil portraits and a poet who paints with words and emotions.
I hope this fits the contest. Thanks.

fits beautifully!
Such a ray of hope flowing in colors
"Rainbows and dreams
And wishes for things to be.
We have all had them
Tucked neatly into our lives.
All the wonderful scenes of butterflies
Winging their flight through a rainbow sky."
Beautiful, Donna!

Lynda,
Thanks for reading, commenting and applauding. I appreciate it. I'm glad that it fits. I wrote that one about a year ago or so. Just bringing it out of the mothballs. Thanks again. Love and hugs...
