I walked upon the stony steps,
towards my destiny.
I forced my eyes to stay ahead,
so darkness I'd not see.
I walked upon the stony steps,
past pillars strong and tall.
To leave my darkened past behind,
lest, like my tears, I fall.
I walked upon the stony steps,
I watched the sunset sky.
I let the warmest radiance,
fill my soul, and catch my eye.
I walked upon the stony steps,
leaving behind my frightening past.
Walking ever toward the shining sun,
who's rays upon me cast.
I walked upon the stony steps,
till at last I reached the end.
Like the dawning flight of the ripened bird,
with my final breath, ascend.
