A Broken Heart

She's dying from a broken heart,
Shattered into a million pieces,
Lying on the cold dirty ground.

He said he'd always love,
Till the day he died,
But that day came all too soon.

He was sent away to the war,
They had three days to say good-bye,
No one knew when he'd be back.

Three weeks later came a surprise,
She was pregnant with child,
Scared out of her mind.

Six months went bye,
Then another three,
A letter with each passing week.

Two days after their baby boy was born,
She got a letter no one wants to read,
So she gathered her courage to open it.

Inside was a letter from his leading officer,
She had a bad feeling deep in her gut,
But she had no choice and continued to read.

"I'm sorry to inform you of this ma'am,
But your husband was killed,
In a road side bombing."

She fell to her knees,
And began to weep,
Unable to believe it.

The baby began to cry,
She named him after his father,
Now just a war hero.

She's scared for the baby,
She's scared for herself,
And now she's dying from a broken heart.
