A Poet’s Unapologetic Plunder -Gold

Missing image

I stole blue words from your eyes
plied my pen to painting a weeping sky;
gray clouds of clauses taken from those days
when dusty roads wore grimy rain,
pretty pink words unraveled
from christening dresses my daughter’s wore,
yellowed dress my mother wore
in 1944 are mined for memories rhythms
mimicking an old time Wedding March.

but, oh, when I go where inspiration dwells,
a kaleidoscope crackles in intensity
as thoughts swell and spatter hallowed hues
on pale parchment, in stanzas that startle me
with wonder that such could have been birthed
in this chaos of colors on my passion-filled palette

I dread going blind, not being able to pull my pen
to blank reams of poor man’s paper , losing my reason
to write, or forgetting to feel how texture of tones
can be painted in simple single-spaced poems

color me gone when there are no truths
to take and translate from brush-cut stubble
on my young sons’ faces

try me and hang black shroud over endings
to my ability to artfully analyze
how living has rubbed me red

let me die a thief’s death
so I can stow away in god’s gallery
to steal his rainbow’s to inscribe
my soul’s ascent into his canvas

    Lightning strikes me

I am new here to AP so did not come across this exquisite piece until now......but was stunned by the beauty of it and how it outlines my very soul, although I create with clay, fabric, and paints...you have totally outlined the passion (and for me, the nostalgia/past times associated with my own work) that one feels when one is inspired and is COMPELLED to put forth that passion in their own way.....
Thank you! I'm in awe of how you sculpt with words...:-)

    Absolutely beautiful!

From the first line where you say, "I stole blue words from your eyes"...I was captured! You used many colors in the rainbow in this beautifully penned piece. I'm sure you will do well in this contest. Lots of luck!

    omg

I am still trying to catch my breath, really......

    WOW!
Talk about writing in colors that sweep the skies! I was just sitting here thinking..."Will anyone get this contest or did the quote just mean something to me alone"
then this piece appeared and just swept me away!
It was nice to see that someone else has to write, to breathe....

    Brilliant!
