Unfolded petals
withered and crisping at their darkened edges
time devourers carefully
so now every last breath they consume
every last measure of water they absorb
fades like the pale magenta cream of their leaves
yet beauty grips on in fierce determination
the distant blush of crimson
that survives the final hours
of a rose's short lived life
