He Died at 22

He died at 22
Leaving all he knew
In books bound in blue
He left this in lieu
Of a dollar or two

He died this year past
Thought knowledge as good as cash
Cash is water drained from a bath
He used to say and laugh
That's before he turned to ash

...He was an asshole wasn't he?

Author notes

I guess I could have been a little nicer. Eh, I guess the truth hurts =]

I always thought that I would want, "I told you I wasn't feeling well" engraved on my tombstone, lol. The narrator in this piece is perhaps bitter more than an asshole, wouldn't you say? Besides I would much rather have someone's words to remember bound in blue books than a dollar or two or ten's of thousands. I find the saddest part that "he" died at 22...that in itself makes me wonder what the author is feeling?? Good luck in the contest, Brian! And please do cheer up! Best, Elizabeth
