Issac

I found Issac
Father didn't know him
He only knew of Abraham
and Abraham's Penelope's calico bonnet
he cautiously peered into-
His wrinkled grandmother died when he was ten
We Moons take seven league strides through the ages
500 years in twelve generations
Make babies when we are old
enough to know what we are doing

My great grandfather Issac
was an herb doctor
That's all I know about a life
Two words

For anyone who cares in the years to come
I pay attention to nature
Human nature, too
Hear the witness of the stars
I dabble fly fishing in the stream of conciousness
mounting a few fleeting phrases
I was proud to catch

The fading lines at the end of this piece just blew me away! I don't know who took the gold and silver, I don't need to. I have had enough right here. You and I are such kindred spirits though our lives are very different. Writing poetry is not about form or style, it is the ability to shatter ever window in a man's soul with your words. Often that means that you have to find the right man with the right windows that are already about to break. All the poet needs to do is softly blow on that glass and the windows shatter. That reader is left naked and alone with no defense against the elements. He can only stare out of the empty frame and say, "I know you're out there". RC

hey I had to go back to the contest to read this poem in it's proper context, but when I did, it made total sense. This seems like a gold to me. I haven't read the other poems in the contest, but I am surprised this didn't win- it's right up there.

    WONDERFULLY SWEET

I really like this one to know ones elders is to know ones self...to care for Nature is to care for Human nature as well...To leave something of ourselves for others to see and to understand us, is wisdom...A way to always be remembered thank you so much for sharing

Quite a unique way to interpret the contest challenge - thought the metaphor in that last verse was great - how it relates to writing.
