Beads of sweat dripping off the forehead,
body clammy and sticky
underneath the layer of his thick scarlet robes
adorned with golden symbols of vines on each sleeve.
Using his quill to scrawl the precious light of seers
upon that sacred scrolls he preserves and protects.
Stopping to gaze out the palace's window
towards the sprawling sights of ancient Babylon,
it somehow seems so transparent and meaningless to his piercing eyes
even as the cherished cradle of its kingdom's crowning glory.
Finally, sitting down his writing instrument,
before ritualistically rolling up the parchment,
he'll take this new collage of prophetic visions
and store it in an alabaster jar for future disciples and generations.
Closing his eyes,
allowing his spirit to open for hearing the voices,
from all the past guardians and keepers of illumination
bringing their chorus of eternal truth into his consciousness.
Rising later, numb from the communion, mind drunk on the energy
shining from an ethereal pasture no human eyes will ever see.
Tomorrow he'll write again,
quietly inserting in a few of his own gifts from insight that he bears,
which only those in harmony with the divine auras
shining from an immortal spirit of creation,
will ever interpret.
