Mine is the hand that writes history.
My discipline is to write without flaw,
for with my pen or lazy mind, I might
change the course of human tides.
When those whose lives are not yet
formed from wish or thought or clay,
read of our times, they must read truth.
No word nor nuance must be my own.
I have no place in these scrolls but to
record the times as accurately as I can.
My quill and I are servants to truth,
bound to record what the eyes see,
the ears hear of things spoken and done.
For men are filled with braggadocio,
they see with the bright eyes of ego.
I must be the cipher that pens it all in
truth and dates and forms and knowledge.
No prejudice of mine is allowed to blot
the pages with hearsay or rumor, for I
write with the blood of my heart, the
truth to live down through the years of men.

Hoodwink!!!
WOW! This reminds me partly of Egypt, and partly of a court scribe, although the court scribe could only be because of the similarity in names... wow, this piece is written with an air of grace, as best as I can describe it, and now... I'm off to google the word "braggadocio". Thanks for broadening my vocabulary!

Hood-Winked!
I'm glad that I got a chance to read this poem comment. It's a wonderful piece of truth that illustrates the position of a scribe so very well.
It's so important now adays for someone, like a journalists for example, to be able to write down the truth. People are so prone on believing everything in the media and if they are misled many things arise from the misleading.
The flow of the poem was wonderful; the message very clear as well honest. Thank you very much for sharing.
Hope all is well,

the first 4 lines are always important in a poem because it decides whether or not the rest is worthwhile, and this one definitly is. Any poet who's works are available to be seen has a shot at changing the world whether they're remembered for it or not. I also really appreciate the line "for i write with the blood of my heart" because the blood in so many other places of the body are not nearly as vital as blood drawn directly from one of our main sources of life. this poem is beautiful and i'm really glad i was bored enough to start reading random stuff for otherwise, i never would've come across this. pretty sure i'm gonna be looking at some more of your work.

"My quill and I are servants to truth,
"...yes, and not just about society..but our own real and raw experiences that are common to so many....really nively done. -
I think you've written this exceptionally well. Your flow is briliant and the words you use are very well chosen. I enjoyed the piece and i look forward to seeing what else you have written. Line 13 doesn't seem to be quite right, i suspect you mean to have a , after "hear". As a male i feel obliged to dissagree with some of wht you have written but i'll leave that for aother day.
well done and thanks for shareing your thoughts.
