From high above an eagle looked down
below into the valley where the campus lay.
What he saw made him fall fast to where
he landed on a granite wall.
An eagle sits there for all to see,
as a tear rolls downs his feathered cheek,
counting off one by one for each of them.
That took their last breath and died
never knowing why?
And then I heard the eagle
cry.

Thoroughly enjoyable!!!!
You wrapped humanity, nature and tragedy beautifully in your web. The bald eagle is becoming extinct as well as our Innocence. Masterfully drawn comparsion!!! -
Heart-wrenching words! Heartfelt emotions!
You've wonderfully intertwined the nature aspect with this horrendous tragedy. One creature's abomination has attacked a country's social fabric. We are hurting. You have described that pain in this memorable stanza "An eagle sits there for all to see, as a tear rolls downs his feathered cheek, counting off one by one for each of them. That took their last breath and died, never knowing why? And then, I heard the eagle cry." Thank you.

I am native American, in fact Cherokee and each time a death such as this, you can hear in the distance the cry of the eagle.
