Timothy 2:1-13

Missing image
Apostle Paul speaking to his son Timothy

I thank God each night as my forefathers did,
my conscience is clear as I pray to Him above.
I thank God and remember Him in my prayers,
let me see and feel the joy of your sweet love.

I am now reminded how sincere your faith is,
first it lived in your grandmother then mother.
It lives now in you son so fan into the flames,
the gift of God, you no longer need no other.

As God Almighty laid His hands upon you,
He did not give us the spirit of timidity.
God gave us the spirit of amazing power,
and love and self control to you and me.

Do not be ashamed of me as a prisoner,
be not ashamed of our Lord as you testify.
But join me in suffering for the gospel,
by the power of God whom we glorify.

God saved us for His own purpose and grace,
grace was given in Christ Jesus since time began.
It is revealed in the appearance of our Savior,
destroying death through the gospel for man..

He brought life and immorality into the light,
God also did this through the gospel too.
Through gospel I was appointed an apostle
then appointed a teacher and herald too.

That is why I suffer but I am not ashamed,
I know whom I believed and I know in my heart.
He will guard what ever I entrust Him with,
I trust God as each new day does start..

Keep in your heart what you learn from Christ,
guard the faith and love entrusted to you.
The Holy Spirit in us will help to protect them,
God's love will always be there to guard you.

    Impressive!

This almost reads like a poetic commentary of the verses named in the title. I think I even learned somethings, or saw things to consider, in this rendition.

It's interesting to note you were undaunted to use the same word to end the 'b' lines in the 6th and 8th stanza. That seems a bold move.

I have written a couple of poetic renditions of scripture. They are quite a challenge, and I'm sure mine could use some improving. But the challenge makes them fun.

    Good work!

    Fantastic

Fantastic write and a wonderful read first thing this morning. How very true we do have to guard our faith, and never be ashame of it for if we are God will be ashame of us. Very uplifting and thought provoking, thoughts to meditate and reflect on.

    Sandy,
You have done a great job here. I can almost hear St. Paul speaking thosw words to his son. "That's why I suffer and I'm not ashamed." My new words to live by. Keep up the great work.

    This is so nice.

You always put such depth into your poems and you certainly did the same with this poem. I like the scripture and right now with the tragedy in Virginia this is very comforting. Once again it is a pleasure to read your works.

Wonderful!! This was absolutely wonderful to read. I think 1&2 Timothy are two of my favorite books and so not only was this wonderful to read because of the message it was also great to read because, just because. God Bless you!
