I am me
Nothing special
An open door
with a bar across the entrance
You can see inside
but can't cross the threshold
I hold dark secrets
hidden beneath the scars
And there are grey areas
where the light can't quite reach
and where my fears and insecurities
prey upon my life
then there is the white light
straight through the doorway
where my memories take hold
and yet I am always, always
trying to shut the damn door
I am me
nothing special
just a girl
trying to impress
and prove
to everyone
she's not a failure
even though she feels it
I am me
no one else
and that makes me
{special?}
Unique
I may not be intelligent
or beautiful
or athletic
But I'm strong
and I love
and I care!
I am me
nothing special
just a girl
making her way through life
loving and caring
until there is nothing left

Good piece
Hi Candy. I really like this poem. It speaks simply with and it flows. I see you are 18. I am 70. Believe me, when I was 18 my self view was just as you express. Having remained "me" throughout, despite all the self doubts and false view of the superiority of others, and am now completely comfortable with who I was and am. Stay with it! Do find Robert Graves' poem which I think has as its first line "I travelled unsure and slow in my broken images". I'll see if I can find it and pass it on to you. Cheers, jimmy

Very deep and intense i agree. Everyone is special in their own way. I can relate to the first part of the poem trying to shut the damn door on memories.
