Her life was a simple one,
The same as any other child,
Until her mother went out one day
And a handsome stranger smiled.
He asked her out upon a date
And to his pleading she did yield,
Then one night he came over for dinner
And his true nature was revealed.
At first everything was fine,
A little hug here and there,
But something within the girl wanted to scream
When he ran his hands through her hair.
The visits increased until the day
His marriage to her mother took place,
Now her nights were filled with terror
When in her room she would see his face.
No one seemed to notice
That her life had lost its charm.
Even her mother averted her eyes
And ignored the evident harm.
One day a ray of hope shone through
When a woman appeared at their door.
She said she would take her where she would be safe,
Where the man could hurt her no more.
She was in a home of security,
She need not fear who lay ‘round the bend.
Her terror slowly subsided,
But this was soon to end.
Her mother called one day to tell
That a new baby was on its way,
And since they’d obeyed the courts’ orders
They’d like her to come home again.
But the girl firmly decided,
This home she would never leave,
Never would she go back
Where she’d be in his reach.
But then there came the call,
A new sister had now arrived.
A terrible fear took over
And a plan formed in her mind.
Her decision was a serious one,
She’d go home again.
She could not leave her sister
In the hands of him.
But before she left, she snuck a gun
And hid it in her pack.
No more would she helpless be,
No longer a victim to attack.
The night she had returned
He crept into her room,
But this time she was waiting,
He had now sealed his doom.
She held the gun up to his chest,
Shock shown on his face.
A moment later the struggle began,
Her pounding heart began to race.
The baby started to cry
And her mother responded to the shouts.
Then a shot rang out in the dark,
And the next moment left no doubt.
The bullet went straight through her head
And the small girl’s life was gone.
A deadly silence filled the room.
The awful deed was done.
Today some people mourn
That she was taken so soon to the grave,
But I believe it was the mercy of God
And that night, her life was saved.

Well told... it's that simplistic rhyme scheme, but whatever I can't complain because I use it from time to time. The rhythm really needs work in some places in terms of beats per line, but for the most part the actual rhymes are good. The content is well presented... although you could probably come up with a better ending stanza. Good work though

thanks.
i was wondering. what do mean by better ending stanza? do you think it should just be reworded? or have a different ending? cuz it's based on a true story, so i can't really change the ending. -

You don't necessarily have to change the ending... I was thinking a rewording, or perhaps another stanza after it to tie it all together... not that the ending you have is that bad... I dunno, don't worry about it.

This write made me very sad it all too true. The feeling of pain and not being safe is a very real aspect that toucheds the heart. Many children die by there own hand or an abusers hand. This is very touching and deep. Very well wrote touching. My eyes filled with tears.
