I think I’m catching cold
My eye sight’s narrowing quickly
Claws on tongue; I can’t be told
My world’s a sunlit pillow;
Your world’s a rocking chair
No worlds orbit without me
I’m the window to all stares
I’m feeeeling
— Feeling feline
I’m feeling Feline Nine
I’m feeeeling
— Feeling feline
The world’s my ball of twine
I’m in a fishbowl spinning lonely
Squinting eyes of lunar gold
In a bag my thoughts claw wildly;
Curiosity’s nine times as old
On a hot tin roof I’m walking
And I’m fiddlin’ all the time
With every mouse encountered
In my world of shadow crime
I’m feeeeling
— Feeling feline
I’m feeling Feline Nine
I’m feeeeling
— Feeling feline
My back is archin’ all the time
I’m faaalling
— Falling freely
I am falling to your heat
I’m faaalling
But it doesn’t matter
I'll always land back on my feet
I’m feeeeling
— I’m feeling feline
It must be Feline Nine
I’m feeeeling—
That there are no walls or ceilings
So I must be doing fine
Author notes
First... this is our cat Moo. He is a terror. He likes to hang out with our dog Nutmeg much better than our other two cats.
I wrote this for LionessK's four year anniversary here at AP because I'm pretty sure she has a thing for cats and didn't know what else to do. The title and opening pertain to my novel... I have a droid character that becomes infected by a virus nicknamed Feline Nine. He starts to believe he's a cat. I really liked the notion of something so structural and metal trying to curl up in a ball or rub itself against it owner's leg. The contrast is magnifique and always one of my favorite parts to write. I may use the poem in whole or in part within my novel. I won't know until I get back to writing a segment involving Quinn.
The rest of the verses just stem from as many cat idioms I could think of. Cat got your tongue? Don't let the cat out of the bag. Your like a cat in a roomful of rocking chairs. Cats are windows to the soul. Curiosity killed the cat. etc etc.
I always get a chuckle when I hear someone say, "It's a dog's life!"
What... are they kidding.

Thank you... Feline Nine also stems from my book. It's a virus that affects the droid Quinn which makes him think he is a cat and his unrelenting curiousity poses all kinds of problems. I liked the notion of something entirely mechanical trying to purr and curl up into a ball. Lol.

I just have to smile at this.. so adorable. it would be a difficult choice.. but that second stanza is my favorite.
Thank you..

this one had me smiling. it's about the most happy poem I've read in quite some time and had such a great rhythm to it when read aloud. This is one of those poems that I'll try to remember to bring up when I visit with my nephews. They'll think I'm a bit odd for reading it - but I bet they smile a mile when they think about the images.
well done.
