Friendship....Not Gold

If you could see her now
She'd be wide awake
Dreaming of the other night
And damning her mistake
She said the night went fast
And she awaits your return
You didn't go that far...
But God did she burn

And if you didn't feel that feeling
Then you are a fool
She wasn't high on love
She was running out of fuel
Running on empty
Your touch strengthened her faith
And now she's left wondering
Is she a disgrace

What really hides
Behind her mask
Is it scaring you
Will you rust
She doesn't want to cause problems
Or fall in love
Company is all she seeks
And a good laugh
But you with your beauty
And roving eye
Would rather have wealth
And rather have style
But a different kind of being
One you'll never know
Is standing right in front of you
Begging you to go

No sense, kidding herself
She'll take you as you are
That's because she knows
She won't go too far...

How many kisses
While on the run
Is talk cheap
Is sex fun
She needs a loving friend
Loyal and true
No need to hurt her
She won't hurt you
Tell her all your problems
She'll want to hear them all
She'll kiss you so tenderly
And you'll wonder what for
You may never get to know her
The true being that she is
You'll often wonder
Just who she is
Confusion and bedlam
Until her dreams come true
But I guess that has nothing
To do with you
She knows what she wants
You remind her of younger days
Life was a party
And love did come her way
Many times...not just once
Her heart had stopped a beat
The beauty that she shared with them
Not one to complete
And she likes to have the power
To torture and torment
She doesn't want to turn to stone
Or harden like cement
If relationships are on the shelf
And friendship is all you need
Look her up, she has a knife
But she won't make you bleed
And so it is
In time to come
Romance and magic
Will all be one
No search too deep
Will make it pure
Everyone knows
Love's not a cure
Pain and pleasure
Tainted by hearts of gold
They were never bought
And they were never sold
She'll never understand
Why love turns to hate
When the magic has gone
She'll put it down to fate
But a moment of pleasure
A good night by all
No penetration
No words to stall
She trusts her own judgment
She hopes you do the same
If your her friend
Then there's no-one to blame
She longs to unburden herself
Then get her thoughts back on track
If it isn't white
Then it isn't black
And if you can't read her lines
Nor understand where she's from
She wasn't your friend
And you didn't belong
There's a purity
Deep in her mold
It's friendship she seeks
Friendship....not gold
