One Corinthians Thirteen

Love is patient,
love is kind,
bears fruitful branches
upon its vine.

Love does not envy,
it does not boast,
love protects those
who need it most.

Love is not proud
nor is it rude.
Love has a humble
attitude.

Love does not
anger easily,
love does not brood
over injury.

Love does not
delight in wrong,
love wants truth
to carry on.

Love bears all
through storm and gale,
love so true
will never fail.

When I was married twenty - five years ago, I used 1 Corinthians :13 for our Wedding invitation as well as a reading for our Wedding ceremony. A couple of years ago, I wrote this poem based on the biblical verse. I hope both of you find these qualities in each other in your married life together. God bless you, Thomas and Danielle!

Much happiness on this day and always,

Joyce Josephson

Excellent portrayal of the greatest emotion. Love is indeed all of these. And, it is, (my favorite definition), for no other reason.

When I first saw the title, I thought, "Here we go with something that's been said many times before, & possible misquoting of Scripture." & I was wrong.

I love the way you turned the Bible's love chapter into a beautiful poem! Does that permission stand for me to share it, too? I'm not getting married anytime soon, but I would like to hang it in my house when I get one.

Thank you so much for sharing & good luck in all these contests!

The verse from Corinthians has always been one of my favorites, and your interpretation of it is one of the most beautiful I have seen. I would love to see the verse itself in the author notes, or a link to it, for those who aren't familiar with it. I hope you don't mind, but I would like to add this to my list of favorite poems by other authors. It's one I believe I'll read over and over again.

TY so much for sharing, and good luck in the contest!

    Best wishes,
    ~J.

Thank God for God love. For his love will not fail us nor forsake us. I love the verse you choose to write about. God is always there to love us. We as humans struggle to live up to that type of love. Human love is fickle. Very well wrotee

    The very thing!

I sometimes read and then scoot away without a comment. Not often, but enough to mention. I felt however that I ought to acknowledge your poem as well done and thank you for writing it. The very thing I was thinking about this night and it was good for me to hear these words again as you wrote them in verse. Jadon

Odd as it may seem, every time I think I'm in love with someone I like to read around in that area of my Bible to try to justify what I'm feeling. It was really lovely and I enjoyed it so. Good luck in the contest. ^_^
