On the balcony of a beautiful high rise
Near twilight and 35th street
I serenaded a woman who
I could only see as a silhouette
As she sat writing in a notebook
She patiently waited for me to finish
Then she asked me if I knew anything
That would sooth a lonely woman’s heart
I tossed her a Snickers, and she laughed
“No” she said, “I meant a song…”
So I sang the following:
The songbird sings to God
Another songbird answers
Coyote’s serenade the moon
And a coyote answers
We sing to one another
And answers are never real
Perhaps it’s time to sing a song
Just for singing’s sake
So much to say within my soul
My spirit comes awake
My soul will sing to heaven above
Just for singing’s sake
I sing my tune for God
Another spirit answers
I bless the universe
And blessings come my way
I sing just for the song
And answers fill my soul
So, I will sing forevermore
Just for singing’s sake
So much to say within my soul
My spirit comes awake
My soul will sing to heaven above
Just for singing’s sake
She opened up the Snickers and then
She seductively licked the end
Then leaned over the rail and said
“I’m going to buzz you in”
Please join me on my balcony
and sing your song again.”

No. I don't let little Romeo out anymore... you get arrested for that.

I read this and stopped, reread it and stopped again. As your girlfriend, I shouldn’t be reading this. This is too good to be a tribute. I hope you know you just proposed to Noreen’s heart. This is the type of thing that makes women fall in love with men. Very well done.
Love,
Amera

Just because she buzzes doesn't mean I'm going to go... she's probably a freakin' Yankees fan... Don't trust the elevator in her building anyways...

I love the story that you tell with this and the personal connection you're able to establish between two people so quickly. I also like the song in the middle because it takes on a completely differently feel than the rest of the piece. It was great that you left the end open to so many possibilities.

This represents a discussion I had with Soulful Woman. She never accepted my point. What's a man to do?
