And What Of Love?

What of the word?  What of its true meaning?
‘Tis a thought I have pondered in my mind,
used so often yet with such a demise,
its’ meaning defining the truth in me.

XOXOX

I’ve often put into words its’ sadness,
cried sorrow ‘til the sun refused to shine,
created beauty with the joy it brings,
and beamed my smile throughout the dark night.

XOXOX

I’ve defamed my reputation you see,
I was in search of what I didn’t have.
I’ve closed my eyes to the horrors within,
just to have someone hold me so tight.

XOXOX

Secrets I have shared have caused me its’ pain.
Secrets I have kept created a wall.
Tears of joy escaped when he would walk in,
and reappear when he left me alone.

XOXOX

I’ve molded myself to the ways of him,
and I’ve fought to become myself again.
I’ve known a love that couldn’t be returned,
and been the one who broke someone’s sad heart.

XOXOX

I have prayed for the minute he’d leave to come,
I’ve felt him in my heart when we’re apart.
All aspects of loving I have lived through,
seen true intimacy when it is shown.

XOXOX

I sit here tonight in my room alone,
{Not quite as he is within my true soul}
wishing for the magic that he could bring.
That is love’s definition to my heart...

Author notes

i think love is the most overused, most misunderstood four letter word in the english language. but when that once in a lifetime true love comes along it is magic.

though this says there are 53 lines it is really much less than that with 29 written lines.

well this is nothing less than stunning, and I agree with you when you say love is the most overused and misunderstood four letter word in the english language....people say it thinking they mean it when they really don't, and a lot of people get hurt, with the word "love" to blame. The poem in itself is beautiful, its very well written and beautifully put together, and I absolutely love it. Great write here darling, keep that ink flowing!

i dont think there were any bad parts but there was an awkward line "I have prayed for the minute he’d leave to come" but it was excellent

This was beautiful. So much truth in it, too. I find it hard to lay myself out on the page like this, which I feel any true writer must do. Just let go of inhibitions and write. You seem to have done it.
