Silent Comfort

Glowering,
Anger pulsating through my veins,
Taking fast-paced steps that led to your door.
I rang the doorbell, relying on you being home.

You answered,
Six foot two,
Handsome,
Wearing plaid pajama pants,
And a simple tee.
I smiled at this,
One PM, and you were still in pajamas.
My anger abandoned me immediately,
Sadness rapidly taking its place.
You knew instantly that something was wrong,
Seeing it in my eyes, as you questioned with yours.
No words were needed from you.
I stood there, and abruptly spilled everything.

Everything she did was too much;
Her accusing tones,
Her wagging finger,
Her disappointed glare,
All for things never done,
Things that never happened.
She knew I wasn't like that,
She knew I didn't even think that way,
Yet she went on;
Accusing, wagging, glaring with disappointment.
My Aunt,
Who apparently knew nothing about me,
Nothing about the morals I stand by,
Live by everyday.

Anger obtruded my thoughts once more
As I spoke of the allegations of earlier hours,
Tears brimming my eyes.
You stood silent, pensive,
Worry and care evident in your eyes.
With one gesture of the hand,
I was in your arms.
You held me there,
Silent comfort.
And with that hug, you let me know
Everything was going to be alright.

I pulled away,
Anger gone,
A smile back on my lips.
"Thank you"
