Its mystery covers me in despair
in its darkness there is comfort
and when embraced in its nether world
of nothing this torment of my soul
is almost beautiful in its madness
Charming horrors surround us in
this boundless mystery, this savage garden
and even though tattered and torn
bruised and broken, my insanity holds
the power to charm in its raw beauty
Whether a cruel monster with fell lunacy
or the dogma of righteousness of the charming hero,
bold exploits often turn out to be selfish endeavors
consuming and feeding on evil itself
Even the most virtuous soul however chaste and clean
holds inside the poison of malice, the want of wickedness
An evil that lies just beneath the surface
the depraved vices hold us hostage
even while we may struggle with wrong and right
So you ask what is good about being dark
what can be possibly be behind my
abandoned faith of human kind?
When the veil lifts showing the evil and iniquity that surrounds
Riots of life falling into decay and ruin, declining and
slowly corroding what little brutal beauty is left
You ask why? How can darkness be a good choice?
It’s this . . . I know all the sands of time
will not ease my sadness and sorrow
for sanity’s endurance ends still in the blink of an eye
in the withered cliche of every grave
because we are all but glittering dust in the end
and a persons immorality lies with a choice
Are you pure both of deed and thought, malignant or benign?
Do you love the color black?
Author notes
not sure if this is what you were looking for.
I came across this quote and thought it helped with what I was trying to say so I used it as well for inspiration for this contest.:
“The evil men do lives after them: the good is oft interred with their bones”- Shakespeare

This is different from every other poem I've read in my contest! For that, I thank you. I like the way you give all the reasons to love black and end your poem with the question "Do you love the color black?". Nice job. I tip my hat to you *tip hat*

I have this fetish for the color black. lol. I've had to force myself to wear color so I don't look like walking death every day. You've captured that sort of macabre feeling very well in this piece. Makes me wont to don a leather bodice and hit every fetish club in town.
The only string of words I had a problem with was "monster with fell lunacy". I kept wanted to say "which" instead of "with" but otherwise, this was a good and very entertaining read

I love the challanging ring in the questions you pose at the end of this. How hard it is to really dive in and discribe how one feels about something seemingly untangible. You have brought color to life....given it a voice....personality.....very well done! -
very nice.

Wow, this is very unique way of looking at the color black and the darkness that is associated with it - very deep and certainly what was asked for in thsi contest. Congratulations on taking gold - I do not like the color black, but you have certainly given plenty of reasons why you do.

Kudos!
Dark is good because dark is what you chose. I enjoyed this immensely, very well done.
