The dark of night, my soul sinks down to hell
My heart feels dead, the world seems far away
Inside of me the water from the well
Is full of tears that drown the light of day.
Despair brings no compassion or esteem
A fragment of desire that knows unrest
And if the river follows like a dream
The winding path is sorrow for the blessed.
So heartless now reflections choose to dwell
The oceans crash and break upon the shores
And horror gasps resounding like a bell
In silent prayers before the heavy roars.
While brooding in the distance there’s a ghost
That calls my name along the weary coast.
I should have died, my heart was torn away,
Within my breast, I felt it slipping down
And as I died I didn’t want to pray
I longed for sleep, I longed to slowly drown.
There is such heart-ache seeing those you love
And knowing you will not see them again
My fingers pushed into a velvet glove
The feelings frailer than the poet’s pen.
I wanted then to hold you close to me
To feel your arms around me warm and strong
And fight for breath so I could somehow see
Your face and know our love was right not wrong.
The strangest dream, I woke next day at dawn
In love with life, the memories we have drawn.

Truly dark and painful, full of dark emotions. Very nicely done. Luck in the contest!

Your double sonnets were just beautiful. The turn in the 1st sonnet was good making reference to a haunting ghost (nightmare) and then the turn in the last sonnet signaled us that it all a dream. I think you penned this in such a way that emotionally we could all relate to it at one time or another. This lingers on the soul! Another sonnet well done!
