copywrite (C)L. J. Tumin 8/23/2006
Once upon a time, land not far away...
a broken creature got up and faced each day.
She did not laugh, she did not cry,
she did not stop to wonder 'Why?'
The one she loved, and gave her trust,
would throw her down into the dust...
Treat her like less than a whore,
a trophy owned, and not much more.
Ripped her open, broke her heart,
every time he forced her legs apart.
Her soul untouched to the shadows fly,
I think that is the reason why..
Though her body broke, and screamed, and fell,
she'd rise again and face that hell.
Stop the blood, and patch the bone,
apologize again in calming tone.
For herself she shed no tear,
though each new day she faced with fear.
Babies she lost... One, two, three, and four.
She'd thought to give them life, and more...
With love and reason, she thought he'd change...
A foolish dream, but not so strange.
Many do try, to say the least,
with love to soothe the savage beast.
Yet change did come, I'll tell you true...
Worse and worse, it grew and grew.
Endless bruises for her to hide...
To family and friends "I'm ok..." she lied.
No family or friends allowed too near,
though some did question and find it queer.
Her smallest joys? Oh, those he slew...
pets horribly destroyed as jealousy grew.
His drink and drugs, and misteress too...
She hid her shame, he never knew.
Her body? He just gave it away,
to settle debts he could not pay.
Yet, when she begged to be set free,
"I'll kill you first..." "You belong to me."
To prove his point, he showed her death,
by the stopping of her very breath.
To Shadowlands and back, and then...
The daily grind began again.
With child five, some courage found,
to stand up and look around...
This one to lose, a price too dear...
Determined, into the future she must peer.
"I'm leaving you..." she firmly said,
though rifle barrel pressed her head.
Click of trigger pulled, and then...
With second shell it misfired again.
Courage to live, she did finally show,
as I have good reason to truly know...
Those scars she gained? She has them still...
Wears them with pride, and always will.
The son she bore? Still lives today...
Given the chance to learn and play.
This story's now told, but do you yet see?
That 'broken creature' once was me.

It's longer than entries were supposed to be so I almost didn't read it, but it's easy to read and it's very good. It is a heart-tearing story. I hate abuse and sh**. I agree with dragen--it is Very well written. Thanks for entering my contest. Take care.
