Pink Mountain Laurel

Nestled on a mountain's breast
beneath its fragrant fount,
fragile snow-buds, nodding, nesting
wake now from your rest!

Strew daystars from sky's bouquet
along my garden way,
glittery your showy spray
like seasons of ballet.

Donned in skirts of toile and lace
their bouquet holds for me,
laurel scent of alpine gracing,
crowned in pink's embrace.

Author notes

"Now is the time of the illuminated woods,
when every leaf glows like a tiny lamp." -J. Burroughs

This is a flower I do not have in my garden. She is out of reach, but I have beckoned her to join me along with my other petaled maidens. Why is it we covet that we cannot always have .. sniff

I have to admit that the title alone made this quite alluring to click on. It touched my senses even before I read the words to the poem itself. The imagery here is so vibrant and alive you can almost smell it and touch it. You have done an awesome job with this. Good luck in your contest!

    Lovely

What flowers do you have in your garden? I love this poem, it reminds me of the beautiful wild rhododendrons that grow along the mountain sides in the north. Each has a special flower and your poem reminds me of mine. Excellent job -- make you want to reach out and grab the flower to enjoyed the beauty of it's blossoms and fragrance. Totally enjoyed. DJ

    Still beautiful.

This makes me want to go on up to the mountains this weekend just to see. The view in the mountains of Virginia is lovely. We had snow over the weekend so I could not go.

    I agree.

Oh the mountain laurel. You really came out and wrote a truly enjoyable poem about them. Yes spring arrives with its joys and sorrows but the mountain laurel is not one of them.

WOW!!! How very beautiful and serene this is. I've just finished watching the lovely movie - Three Men and a Baby, which I absolutely enjoyed, and thereafter to read such a nice poem is just wonderful Lovely imagery painted on paper here with a beautiful choice of words. You always make me smile This is a beautiful flower in one of my favourite hue. Wonderful assonance and alliteration throughout the poem. Beautiful beautiful imagery! All the best.

Why,do they not grow in your climate? They're new to me. Sounded scented and look so lovely too. Great constructed piece of cascading floral poetry.

I want it in my garden, too. The description of this flower is so...so...poetic. And if I could have the same feeling I get everytime I look at this flower as when I read this poem , I would need to search it out! Wonderful.

Lovely ode to a beautiful piece of nature

We want what we can't have because we enjoy being in its presence or 'having' it. Therefore we equate always having it as always being able to be content. It's a human thing.

Well that was awful scientific for a lovely sentiment expressed in your poem.
