Once Belonged

I'd fit in finally,
not just with alcohol
but in conversations
and I felt your concern,
I belonged better than I expected

Fateful day or not,
careless or not,
I lost it

Maybe your respect,
maybe your faith,
but mostly our relationship

He did the wrong,
not me,
and that's why I had to leave
and remain in the dark

Family, sometimes isn't family
moreso of just words that are meaningless
You proved that to me
and that's what hurts the most

So I have disappeared,
from where I once belonged

Author notes

Just as soon as I belong, then it's time I disappear. this poem is based on my lost connection with parts of family after an incident that changed my life.
