The first day she moved across the street
was when I realized something has changed.
I stared at her when she went out to play with her brothers
as she sweat playing basketball.
I stood behind that paned glass watching
in awe, in amazement.
That was the day I realized I
like women.
But when I met her, it's as if I was seeing
a whole new world.
She was beyond beautiful.
I was only 12, and so was she
Then came the day when she came over
to see if I wanted to go outside.
I almost choked on myself.
That was the day of a blossoming friendship
which turned hotter during the year.
That night, both of us, laying in bed,
we kissed...
I asked her out and she said yes.
It was beautiful.
My mom and her mom scorned us.
Making fun of us and trying to find us
each new friends.
We wouldn't let them.
We kissed and hugged as lovers right in front of them
to prove out point.
Then came the day she had to move away.
I was so upset I cried and cried.
We couldn't keep this realtionship we both knew.
We barely talk now...
still I miss her.
She will always be my first girlfriend, my first female love.
I am proud to have been with her.
I am still bisexual now.
It was never just a "phase".
Nina will always be in my heart.
I love you.

this poem resonates so much with me. My first love was named Nina too...but she did not return my feelings. She never knew...she forgot me in the midsts in of popularity and highschool, but I love her. Thank you for showing me it's ok to be who I am. You should win the contest.
