Eagles soar through the sky,
Honoring the one who has lost his life,
A flag is raised near his grave,
As forget me nots are placed upon the headstone.
His little boy hugs his mom,
Asking when daddy will be home,
She looks to him with tear filled eyes,
Afraid of saying never,
Instead she stays silent,
Praying to God
That they will get through this together.
After the funeral, back at the house,
The little boy starts crying,
His mother asking whats wrong
As birds start to sing mournful hyms,
The child looks up with big blue eyes,
“Daddy’s a soldier in heaven”
His mother hugs him tight, and kisses his forehead,
“Yes he is,God just needed more soldiers.”
The next few years go by,
Everyday is hard,
But they are getting through,
They have each other,
The soldier in heaven is resting in peace,
Knowing his family will be safe,
And they will reunite with him someday.
