I was sleeping when the contractions came.
My small body, rocked and squeezed out of position.
"Mother, why are you doing this to me?"
I could feel myself being funneled
Into spaces that seemed too small to pass through.
"This is uncomfortable"
I could hear her voice, more distant now than before.
She was crying out, not in fear or panic,
But in pain.
"But I'm in pain too"
I heard other voices, foreign to me.
Deep voices, shrill voices, all speaking a language I could not understand.
Suddenly a strange sensation. Sharp and cold.
-Air-
I gasped for breath.
"What is the meaning of this?"
I tried to open my eyes but it hurt. Everything was a blur of
Shapes, colors, noise...
"Where is my mother?"
I was shivering from the cold when the nurse came to me
"You're not my mother."
The strange woman wrapped my body in something stiff
and sterile...it was nothing like the warm womb I so longed to return to.
She passed me to another person standing nearby.
I was in the arms of someone new now.
His scent was unfamiliar but then he spoke.
"I know this voice. I am less afraid"
I tried to concentrate on finding my mother. I knew she was there, somewhere.
I tried opening my eyes once more. Maybe I can call out for her.
I tried to speak:
"Mother where are you?"
I think the one holding me understood and
Soon I was placed down beside someone else.
"I know this smell!"
Her voice was soft and familiar.
"Could it be?"
I had to know for sure. I nuzzled my head in her chest, searching for a clue.
And there it was...
Thump Thump
Thump Thump
"Mother!"
My small body, rocked and squeezed out of position.

Author notes
I always wondered what it would be like if we could remember being born. Imagine how frightening it might have been, if only we were aware of what was going on, and what feelings were...

On and On and On... I enjoyed the eventual idea though, when the poem actually reached an effort of a climax. I did ask for something written about Damien Trent. But carry on writing, just next time write what is asked for.
GOOD LUCK

Ah ha ha ... very clever indeedy. Love your style ... quite unique & different from many fellow poets ... yet, another personified poem ... what if we could remember being born ... well that would indeed be freaky.
