Evenings of tinkling laughter
and a bright new shiny bike,
To play with Rob and Pinky
That's what I'd really like
To run carefree in the park
and buy the five-rupee candy
To be fussed and fretted over
and made to look nice and dandy
I want to watch cartoons all day
and an angel to grant my every wish
To eat ice-cream and chocolate cake
and never have to wash another dish
But I cannot stop to dream today,
fruitless hopes will have to wait
Candy floss dreams disappear
as I walk to the old familiar gate
I have to go to work, you see
at the Costas' house tonight
so mommy can buy her medicines
and daddy won't beat or fight
