Coming to an end

I don’t wanna wait here,
For you to come around,
I just wanna tear,
Away from what is real.

We were young and alive,
Dancing in the moonlight,
We thought we would survive,
Anything at all.

But the world is cruel and dark,
We cant live inside ourselves,
Not without a mark,
To prove that we are scared and weak.

Things went spiraling away
As you hurt yourself again.
You’re saying everything’s okay,
But I cant believe that anymore.

What we thought was right was wrong,
The things you swore would last,
Those things you promised all along,
Are dead and gone.

I won’t rest until,
I know how to save your life,
I can’t stand still,
And watch you wash away.

You turn left and I’ll turn right,
You get up and I’ll lie down,
But I can’t leave you, not tonight,
Because you need me more than ever.

Still I can’t leave you here,
Circling around,
And I can’t watch you shed a tear,
Pretending I’m not real.

Author notes

This is a poem about the end of a relationship and the resulting issues. One of the people involved spirals into depression, unable to forget the other person or let the relationship go. The other person feels responsible for this depression and tries to help the other.

Also I think the link between the first and last stanza is apt. The two people are torn apart but end up together again. sorry if I'm babbling on.

Powerful poem. Expressed well and i like the flow that it has. Relatable in a way to most people, ( break-ups), but it's a strong poem.
    Thanks for entering.
